Class discussion

This session is about Dynamic Learning in 21st Century Chinese Classroom: Achieving Proficiency Oriented and Learner-Centered Instruction. In the first hour Dr. Fox gave us 4 questions to discuss:

1. Describe what learner- centered instruction means to us?
2.What are standards? How are they used in our FL classroom? In Taiwan and in the U.S.
3.Describe interactive learning in the FL classroom.
4.Oral Proficiency and communication in the FL classroom- what role do they play?

It was a brainstorming activity. After the group discussion, we were expected to share the ideas by turn. As Dr. Fox said the class in the states is active talking and learning. Dr. Fox mentioned a concept- Consider your role as BOTH teacher and learner. Think of your classrooms context as containing being a place where teachers are learners and learners are teachers. (Paolo Freire) I like this idea a lot. If teachers can consider their roles as students, they may get to understand students' need and know the expectation of students. I think teachers are not always meant to play a role as teachers in the classroom. Teacher can learn from students. Students see things in different way and sometimes the brilliant ideas come from students' mind.
